Repurposed seating for Saltaire facility

Whilst undertaking the YORcivil3 Framework awarded scheme at Shipley Market Square, on behalf of City of Bradford District Council, the Aureos team were able to identify that a number of the existing benches could be re-purposed and used in public areas. One of the areas was the Cannon Mills Shopping Precinct, which has regular outdoor market events, and they also identified that some of the benches would be suitable for helping members of the nearby Salts Bowling Club.

Salts Bowling Club uses facilities at the charitable Salts Juniors Football Club, which itself has a total of 500 members. These members consist of junior, senior and disability players as well as their families. There are facilities at the site for playing football, tennis and crown green bowls.

During the construction work and as part of their YOR4Good social value commitment, the Aureos team arranged for the benches to be carefully removed, preserving them for future use.  The benches were then stored and subsequently transported to the nearby bowling club, where they were installed around the bowling green.

The benches make for a welcome resource for the site, as they are in keeping with the character of the area and provide suitable points for spectators and players to sit and rest their feet, either whilst watching or playing games of bowls.

Vanda Greenwood from Salts Bowling Club said:

“Salts Bowling Club would like to thank Aureos for generously providing and fitting the benches around the greens. These additions have greatly improved the comfort and experience for both players and spectators. Set within the historic surroundings of Saltaire, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the benches also enhance the charm of the area. We are truly grateful for the generous support that made this improvement possible.”

Stuart Culley, Customer and Social Value Lead from Aureos said:

“At Aureos, we believe in supporting the communities that are close to and are impacted by our work. It’s great that the team, through the YOR4Good Fund social value initiative, have been able to donate these picnic benches to Salts Bowling Club, as it’s a small way of giving something back. The picnic benches will help to create a more welcoming and inclusive space for members and visitors to enjoy. We’re proud to contribute to a club with such a rich heritage and community spirit.”

Additional benches were also delivered and installed at the Cannon Mills Shopping Precinct.
