YORhub team receiving CEYH award

Award for social, economic and environmental sustainability

We are proud to announce that YORhub has won the Environmental, Social, and Governance category at the Constructing Excellence Yorkshire & Humber Awards 2025, with the presentation made at the awards dinner, New Dock Hall, Royal Armouries in Leeds.

This CEYH award aims to celebrate social, economic and environmental sustainability in the regions’ construction sector. YORhub’s submission discussed YORhub’s delivery of social value, evolved and refined from over 15 years of continual improvement, and how it delivers real benefits to the Yorkshire & Humber region.

In 2010, YORhub achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first organization to be accredited by the CITB as a National Framework Skills Academy. This marked the establishment of the first Framework Employment and Skills Academy. The academy aimed to provide tailored training and resources to enhance skills and awareness within the construction industry, particularly focusing on sustainable practices.

This makes sustainability built into YORhub frameworks and was first recognised at the 2012 Rio Earth Summit by a YORbuild global case study.

YORhub has delivered real benefits through our frameworks, including:

  • Diverting 934,000 tonnes of waste from going to landfill
  • Helping 2,200 people in the region get back into work
  • Giving 29,000 pupils experience of the construction industry, through site visits and workshops
  • Awarding £1.5m in funds to community groups and projects through our YOR4Good programme – the first framework community fund of its kind, that has since supported 210 community projects
  • Providing Annual Meet the Buyer events, that are attended by over 200 SMEs
  • Implementing the first framework supply chain engagement programme to provide opportunities for local SMEs
  • Encouraging suppliers to sign up to the Carbon Reduction Code for the Built Environment from the Construction Playbook
  • Being recognised by government as a national leader for project bank accounts to protect the supply chain
  • Becoming the first framework to implement LGA modern slavery guidance to identify and combat modern slavery risks within construction projects.
  • Delivering 3,288 projects for over 90 public and third sector clients with ESG embedded (to the end of 2024)

As a result of gaining the award, YORhub will now go on to be shortlisted at the National Constructing Excellence awards, taking place on Friday the 7th of November 2025 at the London Marriott Grosvenor Hotel.

On announcing YORhub’s success, the judges commented, “Our winner demonstrates that large-scale procurement frameworks can drive change and innovation in our sector, both regionally and nationally. As judges we were inspired by the scope of their ESG programme, and it was clear that the ethos of social and environmental impact is embedded in all that they deliver. Their work with the further education sector, including funding a PhD student, and their support for SME involvement shows a commitment to use their buying power and influence to make a real difference for the environment and for local communities.”

This award builds on the recent win of the Social Value category at the RISE Awards 2025, due to be presented in September at Loughborough University as part of the International SEEDS conference.
