Dronfield community asset secured
A well-loved community facility in Dronfield is now warmer, safer and better equipped to support young people, thanks to Robertson Construction Group and the YOR4Good Fund.
Robertson were appointed to deliver the Chesterfield College Life Science and Engineering Project under the YORbuild3 Medium Works Framework. Working as part of their social value commitment through the YORbuild3 Framework, Robertson provided a full package of upgrades to the Dronfield Scout Hut entirely as a benefit-in-kind. Using labour, materials, and supply chain support provided by Robertson in line with YOR4Good requirements, the contractor has ensured a vital local asset can continue to serve the community for years to come.
Supporting young people and the wider community
Located in the heart of Dronfield Woodhouse, the Scout Hut is a busy hub used by Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers, Girl Guides, Guide Explorers and the wider community. The project directly supports the 7th Dronfield Scout Group, the 3rd Dronfield Woodhouse Girl Guides, and wider community users who rely on the facility for youth development, wellbeing, and social inclusion, providing a space where young people can build confidence, develop life skills and form lasting connections. Each year, it supports over 1,000 users, including participants of the Dronfield 10k and 2k Fun Run.

Delivering meaningful improvements
Recognising the importance of the facility, the project focused on addressing urgent safety concerns while improving the overall usability of the building. Robertson carried out a full package of improvement works at the Dronfield Scout Hut, replacing the condemned gas-fired heater with a new energy-efficient unit, installing updated gas pipework and ductwork, and commissioning the system to ensure safe operation. Additional upgrades included a new five-ring hob, a modern media system, and enhanced security through the installation of an intruder alarm and CCTV.
These improvements have significantly strengthened the building’s safety, reduced running costs and created a more flexible space for activities, learning and community use.

Creating lasting social value
Delivered at a value of approximately £24,146.62, the initiative demonstrates how YOR4Good continues to generate meaningful outcomes for local communities through targeted social value investment.
The upgraded facility now provides:
- A warm, safe and welcoming environment for young people
- Reduced energy costs, helping keep sessions affordable and inclusive
- Improved security, giving volunteers and users greater peace of mind
- Enhanced facilities to support learning, development and community events
A valued partnership
Close collaboration with stakeholders and the local Scout group ensured the works were delivered efficiently, with minimal disruption and maximum benefit. Jo Green, Trustee of the 7th Dronfield Scout Group, said:
“We are incredibly grateful to Robertson Construction for their generous support. Throughout the entire process, the company and the individuals we dealt with were incredibly amenable, supportive, and easy to work with. Their team showed genuine interest in the needs of our group and went above and beyond to ensure everything was completed to a high standard.
She continued, “We cannot thank Robertson Construction enough for their generosity and community spirit. Their support has improved our facilities and helped us continue providing valuable opportunities for young people in Dronfield.”
Investing in the future
This project is a strong example of how the YOR4Good Fund enables contractors to go beyond construction, delivering tangible, lasting benefits where they are needed most. Thanks to this investment, the Dronfield Scout Hut is now well-equipped to continue supporting generations of young people—providing a safe, inclusive space where they can learn, grow and thrive.
