150 Miles in September challenge for Candlelighters charity

This September, a group of colleagues from YORhub. ‘CMS The Bright Sparks’ are stepping up to support Candlelighters, a Yorkshire charity that provides vital emotional, practical and financial support to children with cancer and their families.

The fundraising challenge coincides with Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, helping to raise awareness of the fact that around 150 children in Yorkshire are diagnosed with cancer each year.

The cause is particularly close to the team’s heart. YORhub Construction Assistant Natasha’s son, Lukas, was diagnosed with neuroblastoma when he was just seven months old. Neuroblastoma is a rare and aggressive childhood cancer that develops from immature nerve cells, most commonly affecting infants and very young children under five years old.

Throughout Lukas’s treatment and recovery, Natasha, Sam and Lukas received invaluable support from Candlelighters.

Thankfully, Lukas is now doing fantastically well, and to give something back, the CMS The Bright Sparks, comprising Tasha, Mark, Stef, Harry, Julie and Rachel, have signed up to Candlelighters’ 150 Miles in September challenge.

Running from 1 to 30 September, the challenge encourages participants to complete 150 miles over the month, equivalent to around five miles per day or approximately 12,000 steps. Collectively, the team will be aiming to complete 900 miles throughout September.
