New refrigeration at SHORES Withernsea from YOR4Good

YOR4Good funds new refrigeration unit and storage solutions

Southern Holderness Resource Centre, a registered charity located in Withernsea, better known as the SHORES Centre,  applied to the YOR4Good Fund Cash Grant scheme to purchase a new external walk-in chiller unit and product specific storage solutions for their centre.

The purpose-built SHORES Centre, which will be celebrating 20 years of operation next year, is a thriving community hub which provides a wide range of services, facilities, and resources.  Supporting all members of their community in the Holderness area, the Centre has the Shores Diner,  a Banking Hub,  Credit Union,  Adult Education,  local radio studio and much more.

Their supermarket ‘Shores Pantry and Food Bank’, located at 151 Queens Street, supports their community with reduced shopping spend, by selling produce at low prices.

The YOR4Good Fund awarded Southern Holderness Resource Centre £10,000 which enabled the purchase of the walk-in chiller unit and along with existing funding, helped to reorganise and improve existing storage areas.  The additions will enable the Centre to increase the amount of stock that can be held, whether purchased food from redistribution charities or locally donated fresh produce, and will increase the quantity of products available to their customers.

Shores spokesperson, Mrs Alex Camplin said: “By having the new facility, we will be able to reduce our food waste even further, which is so important (and a personal campaign) and it will enable people to access a greater amount of healthy food at a reasonable cost.”
