Demonstrating commitment to net zero
YORhub has completed the process of signing up to the Cambridge Centre for Smart Infrastructure and Construction’s Carbon Reduction Code for the Built Environment (CRCBE) which commits each construction organisation to play its part in working towards net zero.
The Carbon Reduction Code for the Built Environment forms part of the Construction Leadership Council’s Construct Zero initiative and is referenced in key documents such as the UK Construction Playbook September 2022, the UKGBC Roadmap, and the UK Government Guidance Note Promoting Net Zero Carbon and Sustainability in Construction September 2022.
The CRCBE provides a simple way for organisations to demonstrate their commitment to net zero to their clients or supply chain. The CRCBE brings together and aligns sector wide initiatives and facilitates cross-sector collaboration to reduce carbon emissions (CO2eq) related to design, construction, maintenance, operation, and decommissioning of built assets.
Dee Dee Frawley, Programme Manager at the Cambridge Centre for Smart Infrastructure and Construction (CSIC) said “We are delighted and grateful to YORhub for adopting the code and look forward to working together on the adoption of the code by YORhub suppliers and their supply chains as they commit to reducing their carbon footprint. The Code, supported by the Construction Playbook and the CLC ConstructZero initiative, provides a framework for organisations to make a public commitment to Net Zero.”
Mike Raven, YORhub’s Performance & Improvement Manager said: “It’s been a lot of work to get YORhub signed up to the code, but important work. Every firm working in construction, from clients to contractors, consultants and suppliers, should play their part in net zero and sign up. And I’m pleased that we’re now guiding other NACF framework members towards sign-up too.”
