Food insecurity – a growing issue
In November, YORhub used its annual client conference to support Leeds South & East Foodbank. Clients, sponsors and members of the YORhub team generously donated a total of 106kg of food items to support people in the local area. We also invited representatives of the charity to give a short talk to offer an insight into their work.
With the cost-of-living soaring, food insecurity has become a critical issue for many families across our region and the rest of the UK. Leeds South and East Food Bank has seen a 30% increase in demand compared to the previous year and is seeing more and more people who, despite working full-time, cannot make ends meet. A simple box of food makes a big difference, with food banks helping prevent crime, housing loss, family breakdown and mental health problems. Leeds South and East Food Bank’s mission is to provide not just food but hope and dignity to those in need.
