Refurbishment of Victoria Theatre, Halifax

Children from Ash Green Community Primary School have benefitted from an employment and skills plan, delivered on a YORbuild3 Minor works project in Halifax.

Contractors Morris & Spottiswood along with Calderdale Council and the Victoria Theatre, Halifax, formed a working group with the school to produce an arts-based schedule for the children to get creatively involved with.

The Grade II listed Victoria Theatre is a major landmark on Commercial Street, Halifax and after receiving government funding for high street rejuvenation, Calderdale Council appointed contractor Morris and Spottiswood to carry out  refurbishment.

Morris & Spottiswood Social Value Lead, Stephanie Braithwaite said:

‘The three of us worked together really closely to think about different activities and workshops that would really enable the young children at the school to have fun with the Arts, understand the importance of the Arts and get an opportunity to celebrate it. What we eventually landed on as a group was the idea of puppet theatres and puppet theatre creation and this led us to deliver a full day of workshops.’
