Modern Methods of Construction
This month several of the YORhub team visited the new HMP Millsike project in East Yorkshire, awarded to Kier as part of the Alliance 4 New Prisons in 2021.
Kier invited YORhub framework colleagues to the site to witness how a large-scale project is implementing off-site construction methods, and the benefits of this approach.
HMP Millsike is located adjacent to the existing HMP Full Sutton and will hold up to 1500 category C prisoners. Construction began in 2022 and is due for completion in 2025. Offsite manufacture is estimated to be achieving a time saving of approximately 25% as compared to traditional methods, as well as delivering high quality repeatable design elements, improved site safety, and higher sustainability outcomes.
We extend our thanks to Kier for hosting the visit, in particular Julie Steward, Senior Business Development Manager; Dan Doherty, Regional Director; Rohan Evans, Project Director.
