Meet the buyer 2025

Great attendance

YORhub’s annual Meet The Buyer event at York Racecourse on May 8th was attended by hundreds of subcontractors and suppliers from across the region.

Meet The Buyer gives construction-related businesses the chance to meet major YORhub framework contractors face to face and introduce themselves and their companies. Attendees also had the chance to learn about YORscep, our supply chain engagement programme, and how to join our YORscep members site which offers the chance to bid for subcontract opportunities.

Twenty-six YORbuild and YORcivil contractors had stands at the event. In addition, several YORhub staff were on hand to meet with attendees including Michelle Anaele from the Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) in association with Leeds Beckett University. The KTP intends to create a Supply Chain Engagement Toolkit to increase the number and diversity of regional small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with access to public sector procurement frameworks.

This year, YORhub also supported York Foodbank by inviting attendees to donate non-perishable foodstuffs. There was a great response, which was boosted further by a donation from contractor Tilbury Douglas.

Adam Raffell, Manager of the foodbank, was delighted with the collection, saying; “We are so grateful to YORscep and the attendees and exhibitors who all donated so generously, contributing a huge 226.55kg of food to support local people in York, who are experiencing hunger and hardship. Regrettably, referrals to our services remain an all time high and this donation will make a huge difference to us in ensuring that emergency food continues to be available to those in the city who need it most.”

York Foodbank is part of The Trussell Trust’s network of 428 foodbanks and works to tackle food poverty and hunger in local communities across the UK and relies on the generous help and support of the local community in several ways:

  • Volunteering: Volunteers are always needed. From sorting donations and assisting with distribution, to giving a warm welcome to those in need.
  • Food donations: Check the foodbank’s website for a list of food items most needed.
  • Financial donations: Monetary contributions help the foodbank to restock with specific supplies it is running short of.
  • Raising awareness: Spreading the word about York Foodbank’s work helps promote support.
